Everyone is Touched

According to the American Cancer Society,an estimated 1.7 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in 2018.

At any given moment, there are 15.5 million living with a history of cancer. While some of these individuals were recently diagnosed, most were diagnosed many years ago and have no evidence of cancer.

Cancer touches everyone at some point, some time.

UPMC Headways article Features SOE Executive Director

Since 2007, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has been publishing a micro-magazine called Headway. The magazine is directed towards news on advances in the prevention, detection, and treatment of head and neck cancers. Part educational, part informative and part inspirational. I was asked to contribute my ‘Becoming a Survivor’ story. I am honored to be featured on page two in the Summer 2020 publication.

SOE 2020 Healing Adventure Retreat Cancelled

Dear SOE Followers:

We have agonized over our plans for moving forward with Survivor’s Outdoor Experience Healing Retreat and in light of all of the uncertainty as well as our target audience for attendees (cancer survivors/patients with compromised immune systems), we are cancelling the 2020 retreat.

This was such a difficult decision to make, but one that we felt necessary for all involved.
We will schedule a retreat in the future! This will pass.

Thank you for all of your support.

Please stay safe.

In gratitude,

Jack and Kathleen

Survivor’s Outdoor Experience (SOE) presents the second Pittsburgh-based “Healing Adventure” at the Chatham University Eden Hall campus June 5th – 7th, 2020. “Our first year’s SOE East program in 2019 was such a wonderful success that we are excited to offer the program again in 2020. Once again, we have a list of presenters with a wealth of knowledge and experience. We are looking forward to another informative and relaxing weekend for survivors and their loved ones,” said Jack Ganster, founder and Executive Director of SOE, and 16-year brain cancer survivor.

Survivor’s Outdoor Experience is a non-profit educational and recreational organization run solely by volunteers. This program was developed to provide cancer survivors of all ages an opportunity to learn about the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle. The program provides a curriculum of informative presentations balanced with recreational activities. The goal is to assist participants in gaining strength, hope, and a sense of the future.
